Set in the centennial year of the United States, the 1876 Presidential election was one of the most dynamic and powerful elections in American history. Embroiled in claims of corruption and controversial legality, the contest between Rutherford B. Hayes and Samuel Tilden nearly sparked a civil war among political parties. The older, more politically experienced Tilden, received the popular vote and was known as an intellectual politician. However, it was Hayes, the more practical politician, who eventually took the oath of office, after an exhaustive recount of the electoral vote. The battle for the presidency of 1876 depleted Tilden's personal and political spirit and dampened Hayes' political reputation on both sides of the political aisle. A California fire department claims a light bulb in their station has burned for 116 years. The assertion comes after a Pittsburgh couple said an alarm clock had been stuck in their wall for 13 years, and a Pennsylvania woman said she had a light bulb that functioned for 37 years. Tom Bramell, a retired deputy fire chief, is in charge of looking after the bulb. "It's been burning continuously since 1901," he told Inside Edition. "You're not allowed to touch it. We don't even dust it off."

A new prom king at Centennial High School is actually a girl. A new prom king at Centennial High School in Las Vegas is actually a girl. Skyler Galliher, who is a high school senior, says she's thrilled to be prom king. Skyler claims she got the idea to run for king after her friend, Summer Brother made it known she was gunning for prom queen. Skyler thought Summer would certainly win, so she didn't even think to run. But when Summer suggested she run alongside her as prom king, Skyler thought that idea could work. The pair talked about Skyler running for prom king, but at first they deemed it as a joke. Soon Skyler decided to see if she could actually garner enough votes to become prom king. Probably because of her unisex name, she made it on the first ballot. When teachers and ...

In 1969 the University of Nebraska initiated its first "learning community" as an educational experiment. It began coincident with the 100th anniversary of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln...hence the Name "Centennial Education Program." They became known as "Fellows," a title which described a relationship in which teacher and student were fellow learners. The "living and learning experience" involved an intimate community of a mere 250 students at a time in their own ...
